Pawan Sharma never imagined that his life — once filled with flashing cameras and designer outfits — would take such an unexpected turn. A former model from Haryana, he was far from the world of animal rescue, until one heartbreaking moment changed everything.
Witnessing the agonising death of an electrocuted monkey, Pawan vowed to channel his grief into action.
He went on to establish a sanctuary, a haven for monkeys in distress, particularly those suffering from paralysis. But purpose alone isn’t enough. The road has been anything but easy. He has faced accusations of attention-seeking, numerous bites, and the constant risk of injuries while saving monkeys trapped in dangerous places.
There have been days when Pawan and his dedicated team have climbed down 60-foot wells, tirelessly treated countless injuries, and even nurtured abandoned pet monkeys, gently guiding them back to their natural habitat.
The sheer volume of calls – over 200 daily – testifies to the urgent need for Pawan’s work. The financial burden is immense, with monthly expenses nearing Rs 2,00,000. And now, facing eviction from his current shelter, Pawan is desperately searching for a more secure and spacious home for the monkeys.
Yet, no matter how tough it gets, Pawan refuses to walk away.
He has traded the glamour of the catwalk for the grit of rescue, becoming a beacon of hope for these vulnerable creatures. He did it not because it was easy, but because it mattered.
